What to Expect
In the first session you can expect to discuss what you hope to find on the other side of the counselling experience. You’ll also begin to share your personal story and what brought you to this part of your journey.
During the counselling process, your counsellor will reflect your thoughts and emotions back to you, prompting you to expand your story in ways that provide insight. They may also introduce skills such as mindfulness.
The metaphor of an acorn is sometimes used to describe the counselling process, in that the acorn already knows how to grow into an oak tree, what it needs is a supportive environment for growth.
Counselling can include a range of activities, but each is a step toward congruence, and a life lived in accordance with your values.
